Bench

I found this awesome junkpile... in my own town! There's a guy who has been collecting furniture for years and its piled high on top of itself, covered in dust and cobwebs.

I couldn't even scratch the surface.

I grabbed a headboard and dresser and made a bench from the headboard.

Dresser is sold... bench is still available for $160.

Jackpot

My awesome step son, Bradley, just graduated from Queen Creek High, and he has been helping me with my furniture.

I want to explain that my aforementioned "hiatus" from painting furniture is on hold. So I am on a Hiatus Hold. Ok... so I am still painting, maybe even more than ever, and hating the heat, but loving this hobby-turned-business.

We were on our way to pick up a table, and we passed a small, run down trailer in a sketchy part of town. The thing that made this trailer catch my eye was that there was a lovely dresser sitting out front.
I told Bradley, my chauffeur because I hate driving, to TURN AROUND. We were running low on our allotted seed money for the day, but I was intrigued.

As we walked up the drive, I noticed there were three dressers, two that were matching and one that was LARGE, buried in the tiny carport.

I figured it wouldn't hurt to knock on the door. I knocked and waited... and waited... almost left, then looked again at those lovely pieces, and decided to knock again. The neighbors were sitting in the doorway of their house, enjoying a ... tobacco product... and they kindly told me that the woman who lived there was indeed selling the furniture and was always home. She had suffered from a recent stroke and never left the house.

I knocked again and she finally came to the door... wearing only a small towel. I tried not to look down and asked politely if I could purchase the dressers.

She said she would sell them, for a song... I couldn't believe it.

I finished these two dressers the same day.

Dresser that lived in paradise...

My parents have a cabin in Heber, Arizona, nestled deep in National Forest Land. It's a wonderful cool retreat and I take advantage of it as often as I can. I spent the last two extended weekends there with the kiddos, enjoying the trees and, near the end, the rain.

I have been noticing a dresser in the basement that has been collecting junk over the past ten years. I think it came from another cabin that they bought furnished, but I am not certain.

It's got sweet curves and is very old.

I finally asked if I could have it and they graciously said I could. I painted it a soft blue on the body and left the scarred, burned top alone. The character was too sweet to cover up.

Hiatus

Every summer when the reality of the mind boggling heat sets in, I realize I can't keep working in the garage.

So for the next few months, my blog posts will be dedicated to INTERIOR design, little thoughts and ideas.

I will resume my first love, however, as soon as it starts cooling down.

IKEA Trip

So, summer vacation has been brutal. It seems hotter than usual, the air conditioning in my car doesn't seem to do the trick, and my kids are all over the age of four. This is the age when they learn the word BORED and use it like a projectile whenever they are mad at me.

I have been very busy working for both my husband and my dad, with various projects that have not satisfied my creative urges, but have been productive and slightly lucrative.

I just finished painting two pink dressers. I have been getting more requests for COLORS and have been trying to get a little COLOR COURAGEOUS.

But they aren't completey finished.

So the other day I braved the heat and whining and ventured to my local IKEA. I was grateful that my two youngest begged to go to the convenient child play center while my nine year old son Ethan and I browsed the Rugs and Textiles section. I was on a mission to find a duvet for my king sized bed.

I found this duvet on clearance, though there were many left. I love the colors and funky design. I set the pillow cases aside, too much green, and have some plans for them, some of which popped into my head during that time between sleep and awake.


On my way out, I spied these candles. My son burned three bags of microwave popcorn and I have been looking for a way to get a happier smell circulating. I saw they had an Apple scent and that they were $1.99, and I grabbed three.


I lined them up on my bar and lit them and tonight they are burning happily, smelling luscious. They also come in neat glass jars that will serve a new purpose when the candle is gone.
